The GAR Foundation announced Thursday that it has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to nonprofit groups in Greater Akron.
The foundation paid special emphasis to education this quarter, including a $100,000 grant to Child Guidance & Family Solutions for its Toddlers and Preschoolers Succeeding (TAPS) program. Now in its 14th year, the program serves more than 1,000 students and 300 teachers at 25 child care centers in Akron.

The foundation also provided $450,000 to United Way of Summit & Medina in support of its education-focused Bold Goals.
In total, GAR Foundation awarded $600,000 to the education sector.
