July 18 meeting

KEY ACTION Accepted the resignation of James Monigold, eighth grade science teacher, effective July 1.

DISCUSSION: Monigold has been a teacher and coach in the district for 25 years. He has been hired at Conotton Valley.

In another matter the board, granted a one-year certified contract to Kyle Dunn, eighth grade science teacher and a one-year administrative contract to Cindy Weiss, school psychologist, pending renewal of her school phycologist license. The board also approved classified contracts for Michael Maurer, from head custodian to floater custodian/bus mechanic, with time allotted 85 percent as bus mechanic and 15 percent of yearly hours to buildings and grounds department. Brent Abel was transferred to head custodian at middle school/high school and clarified the contract of Natalie Smith, part-time secretary to the superintendent and assistant secretary to the treasurer, 202 days at 7.25 hours per day.

OTHER ACTION

  • Issued one-year supplemental contracts to Aaron Morris, show choir, jazz band, and pep band director at a rate of $20 per hour not to exceed 190 hours, Dr. Steve Grimo, assistant band director and band instruction at a $1,530 stipend; Valerie Hershberger part-time ELL specialist $5,100 stipend.

  • Accepted donations of $1,000 from Pleasant Valley Teardrop Trailers, LLC, and $500 from Carter Jones Companies (Carter Lumber) for a digital sign at Miller Avenue Elementary; refund a donation of $10,000 to ProVia so they can re-issue the donation to Garaway Athletic Boosters for the baseball field turf project.

  • Approved 15 special education stipends for the 2022-23 school year a $1,002 each.

  • Gave approval to a resolution: META Solutions Cooperative Advertising and Receiving bids for school bus chassis and bodies for the purchase of a 71-passenger conventional school bus(es) and one nine passenger van. The action does not require the district to purchase buses or vans. It just makes the district eligible to participate.

  • Passed a resolution to waive Career Technical Education for the middle school.

  • Approved the district alternative learning handbook for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Gave approval for Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital contract for the 2022-23 school year to partner with the district for athletic training services at no cost to the district.

  • Approved WORKS International, Inc. to provide on-line staff training for 2022-23.

  • Agreed to purchase a replacement walk-in freezer door for the Miller Avenue cafeteria from Refrigeration 77, LLC at a cost of $4,400.

  • Gave approval for The Art of Inspiration speaker for the Aug. 16 staff convocation meeting (ARP ESSER funds).

  • Established per mile reimbursement trip rate for vans at $2.50 per mile and buses at $3 per mile for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Set substitute bus driver rate of pay at $15.30 for routes and trips.

  • Approved continuation of transition agreement with HARCATUS Head Start to collaborate and ensure successful transition of students attending, for those who are kindergarten eligible.

  • Entered into a shared service agreement between the district and East Holmes Local Schools for the transportation of students attending Buckeye Career Center for the 2022-23 school year.

  • Heard an update on district projects to be completed this summer.

  • Approved Connie Johnson, as a substitute assistant treasurer at $25.50 per hour, and Charles Zobel, a three-year on the Local Professional Development Committee.

  • Rescinded the contract for Megan Miller, full stipend as middle school cross country coach and then approved a supplemental athletic contract at a half stipend.

  • Board president April Beachy was named as the 2022 Ohio School Board Association delegate and John Shrock as the delegate. The meeting is held in Columbus in November.
