KEY ACTION Approved a contract with Dawson Security for Baltic Elementary and the high school.

DISCUSSION: The contract for Baltic is in place and the security for the high school is pending approval of a grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. A fire alarm system will also be replaced at Baltic elementary. Many of the projects are being paid by grants.

In another matter Treasurer Sheryl Hardesty reported the state mistakenly gave the district over $1,292,130 million in additional funds that were not meant for the district. The funds had to be repaid to the state. Garaway Local School District was the only district in the state that encountered this oversight, which was a software miscalculation at the state level. Hardesty was thanked for all she does for the district and hopes this never happens again.

Also, the board approved a memorandum of understanding inclusion fund between the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the district for a special education project. The project is called Learning the Kitchen Skills. The district entered into a contract with M. Miller Construction of Sugarcreek for cabinets, counter top and sink installation and materials for the Miller Avenue school project at a cost of $9,800 along with a contract with Martin Public Seating for the purchase of special education project furniture for Miller Avenue Elementary at a cost of $11,511. The board accepted a $25,000 grant from the County Board of Development Starlight School Services program, inclusion fund for Miller Avenue Elementary Special Education Kitchen fund.

The board also approved a contract with Pleasant Valley Plumbing for the purchase and installation of a hot water heater for Miller Avenue Elementary kitchen at a cost of $3,484.

OTHER ACTION

• Approved the Released Time Education program for the 2022-23 school year sponsored by the Sugarcreek Ministerial Association.

• Accepted a $100 donation from the Baltic- Area Historical Society for the band’s participation in the Memorial Day celebration.

• Requested public input on the proposed fiscal year 2023 for federal grant programs for Title I through Title V-B, No Child Left Behind, every child succeeds act, and other federal grants and policies. Residents of the district are asked to direct any questions to Mollie Parisi, Federal Funds Coordinator at 330-852-2421.

• Agreed to purchase facets and gas turrets from Rex Pipe and Supply for the high school science room at a cost of $4,196 through a grant.

• Entered into a contract with Pisanick Partners, LLC child Nutrition consultants at a cost of $34,862 annually.

• Gave approval to a one-year liability, fleet and property insurance policy with Hyland Group/Ohio Plan effective July 1. This policy includes a crime policy at $46,862 annually and also approved a one-year cyber insurance policy with the Hyland Group, effective July 1 at a cost of $3,805.

• Approved a resolution authorizing the EPC Cooperative School Bus Purchasing program to advertise and receive bids for the purchase of a school bus.

• Gave approval to contracts to Duration Coatings for flooring at Dundee Elementary at about $45,000 and replace the ceiling tiles in the high school gym lobby and Dundee Elementary to be purchased from Lowe’s for $5,858.

• Approved Mobility Works for the purchase of a handicapped van at a cost of $65,889. The van will not be ordered until the 2022-23 school year and arrive late in the summer of 2023.

• Entered into a contract with M. Miller General Construction for concrete for the central office outside entrance at a cost of $2,635 and with Sugarcreek Builders for Dundee Elementary 12 door replacements (with 50 percent discount from ProVia of materials) for $17,500.

• Approved the Juneteenth holiday as a paid holiday for all regular non-teaching school employees who are employed on an 11 to 12-month contract.

• Accepted the resignations of Mytchell Frazier, summer worker and rescinded the contract of Josh Pryor, summer worker.

• Approved Nathan Long, as a summer worker at 200 hours at $12 per hour.

• Approved certified contract for the transfer of Lisa Lahmers Lengyl from first grade to fourth grade at Miller Avenue Elementary and a one-year contract to Destinee Werker, first grade teacher at Miller Avenue.

• Gave approval to an academic stipend to Valerie Hershberger, English Learner’s stipend $2,800 ARP ESSER fund.

• Approved classified contracts to transfer Matt Trimmer, building and grounds assignment from floater to head custodian at Baltic Elementary and a revised contract for Kari Jones, special education aide.

• Granted one-year athletic stipends to Greg Miller, varsity wrestling head coach; Alta (Tricia) Cash, varsity cheer coach; Reece Wallick, middle school cheer coach.

UP NEXT Meets in a special meet at 7:30 a.m. June 27 in the central office to address necessary business for the end of the fiscal year. The next regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. July 18 in the high school library.
