Feb. 14 meeting

KEY ACTION Approved a bid of $448,000 for high school gym heating, ventilation, and air conditioning project to Best Commercial Services of Akron pending the district attorney review and County Prosecutor and Auditor approval.

DISCUSSION: The board also approved an agreement with American Electric Power to bring a new electrical service into the high school gym HVAC system at an approximate cost of $3,900. The two projects will be paid with ESSER II funds.

In another matter, Superintendent Dr. James Millet gave an update on the district. He said COVID-19 cases have dropped dramatically and currently there are no cases in the district.

OTHER ACTION

• Accepted a donation of a book “Different: A Great Thing to Be” by Heather Avis, to each elementary student from the Tuscarawas County Board of Development Disabilities to spread awareness about disabilities.

• Accepted the resignation of Jenifer Mast, cook, Child Nutrition Department, effective Jan. 24.

• Transferred Daisie Cline, from four-hour cook Child Nutrition Department, to 4.5- hour cook.

• Approved one-year athletic stipends to Scott Winters, athletic site manager when more than one athletic event occurs simultaneously — at $25 per game for 15 games; Ashleigh Rothacher, junior varsity softball coach; Lucas Immel, assistant middle school track; Jason Wallick, assistant varsity track.

• Approved 14 high school band/choir trip volunteers 2021/22.

• Entered into a contract with Farmham Equipment for bleacher repairs at the high school football stadium at a cost of $17,705 and for repairs to the bleachers in the high school gym at a cost of $17,886 as per insurance recommendation.

• Approved a contract with Burning Rover Lifts and elevators for a handicapped chair lift at the 7-12 building at a cost of $18,500.

• Approved an agreement for shared services of school crossing guard between the district and the village.

• Agreed to purchase a 2023 Integrated CES bus (PR105) from Truck Sales and Service, Inc. of Midvale in conjunction with the school bus purchase program grant. The cost for the bus is $93,756.

• Agreed to rent a 15-passenger van, from Mast Van Rental, for the Appalachian Trail Hike.

• Gave approval to dispose of outdated equipment and two file cabinets from student services.

• Approved the use of The Village Network and SpringVale, formerly Community Mental Healthcare, to offer mental health services to students until the district’s current provider, Ohio Guidestone, has a counselor available.

• Entered into a contract for Students with Disabilities between the district and Dover City Schools for five students, and for one student each attending East Holmes, Fairless and Ridgewood school districts for students attending Garaway.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and Kent State University and Stark State College pertaining to College Credit Plus for the 2022-23 school year.

• Passed a resolution to authorizing membership for 2021-22 into the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

• Approved the purchase and installation of two water bottle filling stations/drinking fountains for the high school gym.

• Gave approval to the purchase and installation of new outside replacement doors for Miller Avenue Elementary and Baltic Elementary.

• Recognized the January students of the month: Kyle Yoder, high school; JJ Francik, middle school; Katie Fisher, fine arts; Rylee Putt and Alexander Roden, athletes; Lexus Troyer, employee of month.

• Four projects to be paid by the Garaway Education Foundation Teacher’s grant for Lucas Immel, textbooks, workbooks, lesson plans; Justin Elmore, novels; Nicole Hilton, financial games; Scott Winters, commercial ice maker.
