Garaway completes home-and-home baseball sweep of state-ranked Hiland

Garaway made it a clean sweep of state-ranked Hiland Wednesday night.

Garaway beat Hiland 6-3 on the Hill in Sugarcreek as the Pirates swept the home-and-home series with their Inter-Valley Conference South Division rival.

On Monday, visiting Garaway (14-5, 7-5 IVC South) broke a 1-1 tie by scoring seven times in the top of the eighth inning for an 8-3 win over Hiland at Lehman Field.

On Wednesday, Alexander Roden went the distance for the Pirates to pick up the win as he struck out seven.

Garaway scored runs in the first four innings to go up 6-0.

The Pirates had nine hits on the night, as all nine Pirate batters had a hit on the night.

Brady Roden and Preston Miller each doubled for the Pirates.

Grant Miller recorded three hits for Hiland, which was ranked No. 6 in Division IV of the state coaches poll.

Indian Valley 8, Tusky Valley 5

State-ranked Indian Valley snatched the lead late in the game in an IVC South victory over host Tuscarawas Valley.

The game was tied at four with Indian Valley batting in the top of the sixth when Trevor Myers singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

Gavin Henry was the winning pitcher for the Braves (18-4, 11-1), ranked No. 7 in Div. II. He went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out four and walking one. Myers threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Myers recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Indian Valley.

Jaxon Burcher led the Braves with two hits in four at-bats.

Beau Wolf, Austin Kohler and Cole Clements each picked up two hits apiece for Tusky Valley (10-9, 8-5).

The Braves JV team defeated Tusky Valley 20-0 as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Dover 11, River View 0

Freshman Blayke Ring tossed a two-hit, five-inning shutout of host River View in his first varsity start and Dover pounded out 15 hits in the non-league win.

Ethan Kellicker, Ayden Hall and James Leggett each had three hits for Dover (18-3), while Matt Dummermuth and Tyler Little each added a pair of hits.

After a scoreless first inning, Dover scored three runs in each of the next three innings and two more in the fifth to put the game away.

Bryson Fry and Owen Emig had the lone hits for River View.

In JV play, River View nipped Dover 2-1. Hunter Edwards had two doubles for the Crimson Tornadoes.

Meadowbrook 12, New Phila 6

Down 6-5 going into the top of the seventh inning, the visiting Colts rallied and scored seven times for a 12-6 victory over New Philadelphia.

Conotton Valley 3, Malvern 1

Brett Putnam tossed a three-hitter and Justin Lambert drove in two runs with a home run as visiting Conotton Valley trimmed Malvern in an IVC North battle.

Ethan Bush had a double for the Hornets.

Strasburg 13, Newcomerstown 1

Strasburg (9-12, 8-3) won at home on Senior Night over IVC North opponent Newcomerstown.

Alex Burkett went four innings to earn the win, allowing one run on two hits.

The Tigers' offense was led by senior Nick Martin's double and two singles, senior Cooper Dailey's triple and single and senior Evan Rissler's single. Drake Reifenschneider and Mason Wagner added two hits each.

Ridgewood 7, Sandy Valley 1

Visiting Ridgewood scored all seven runs over the final three innings to earn a win over Sandy Valley in an IVC South game.

The Cardinals broke up a scoreless game in the third inning. Winning pitcher Trent Warden held Sandy Valley in check from there. He allowed only one hit over six innings, and Josiah Cahill threw a scoreless seventh.

Ridgewood (11-8) got on the board in the fifth. Warden hit a one-out double and Aden Troyer followed with a single before Chase Booth doubled home both.

Ridgewood scored four times with two outs in the sixth. Booth ripped another two-run double, while Alex Stroup and Gabe Tingle followed with RBI singles. Kolby Masloski belted a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Booth had three doubles to lead the nine-hit attack for the Generals, and Joel Lavigne also had a hit in the win.

Austin Leary had the only hit for Sandy Valley (10-11).

Carrollton 7, Minerva 4

Parker Varney had two hits and two RBIs and Cayden Rininger added two hits as Carrollton posted an Eastern Buckeye Conference win over Minerva at the Field of Dreams.

Buckeye Trail 8, Central Catholic 3

Nick Neuhart had a single and triple and Isaac Beaver added a single and double as visiting Buckeye Trail defeated Tuscarawas Central Catholic in IVC North play.

Garrett Burga also had a double for Buckeye Trail. Braden Williams was the winning pitcher.

Gavin Douglass hit a single and double for Central.

Triway 12, Fairless 2

Griffin Braun tossed a two-hitter as host Triway defeated Fairless in a Principals Athletic Conference victory.

Ethan Lautzenheiser and Andy Gill had the lone hits for the Falcons (5-13, 1-11). Gill's was an RBI single. Justin Burkett added an RBI in the first inning.

Wooster 11, West Holmes 1

Wooster defeated visiting West Holmes for an Ohio Cardinal Conference victory.

The Knights (11-12, 5-7) had only three hits in the game.
