Baseball | Garaway downs state-ranked Hiland, 8-3 in eight innings

Hiland's Nolan Yoder has been a solid performer for the Hawks this season,

Visiting Garaway broke a 1-1 tie by scoring seven times in the top of the eighth inning for an 8-3 win over state-ranked Hiland in an Inter-Valley Conference baseball showdown at Lehman Field in Berlin Monday night.

Doran Mast and Alexander Roden each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Pirates (13-4, 6-4 IVC).

Brady Roden went the first seven innings to pick up the pitching win and Preston Miller threw the eighth for the save.

Nolan Yoder had two hits and an RBI to lead Hiland, ranked No. 6 in Division IV.

The Hiland JV team beat Garaway 9-3.

Dover 6, Steubenville 2

Connor McGarry hit a triple and single and drove in two runs as Dover picked up a big non-league win at Steubenville.

Brandon Shepler also hit a triple and drove in a run, while Ethan Kellicker, Mason Stoldt and Tyler Little also had RBIs for the Crimson Tornadoes (16-3).

Nolan Kellicker was the winning pitcher as he went 6⅔ innings and Ayden Hall finished up.

In JV action, Dover blanked Steubenville 6-0 behind the three-hit pitching by Colin Bruno. Ben Tolhurst had a single and double, while Zane Connor and Eric Lanzer each had a double for the Crimson Tornadoes (12-4).

Indian Valley 6, Tusky Valley 5

A walk-off single propelled Indian Valley to a dramatic IVC South victory over Tuscarawas Valley.

The game was tied at five with Indian Valley batting in the bottom of the seventh when Tanyon McComb singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Indian Valley (17-4, 10-1) was led by Trevor Myers, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Myers singled in the second, singled in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and doubled in the seventh.

Myers was credited with the pitching victory for the Braves. The righthander surrendered no runs on three hits over three innings, striking out five and walking none.

Myers, Kochman, and Brogan Burcher all had multiple hits for Indian Valley.

Cole Clements and Austin Kohler each collected multiple hits for Tuscarawas Valley. Clements led the Trojans with three hits in three at-bats.

John Glenn 5, New Phila 3

Blade Barclay was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Colt Emerson went 3-for-3 as visiting John Glenn topped New Phila in non-conference play.

Bexlee Woodward was the winning pitcher for the Little Muskies (12-7).

Brenton Billman had two hits for New Phila (11-6).

John Glenn outscored New Phila 11-10 in JV action.

Strasburg 17, Newcomerstown 1

Drake Reifenschneider pitched five innings, allowing one run, one hit and five strikeouts for the pitching win as visiting Strasburg spoiled Newcomerstown's Senior Night.

Derek Rissler, Matt Cox, Hunter McKenzie, Mason Wagner, Evan Rissler, Nick Martin and Alex Burkett all had multiple hits for the winners (8-12, 7-3 IVC North).

Ridgewood 6, Sandy Valley 3

Cody Booth struck out 12 and host Ridgewood doubled up Sandy Valley for an IVC South win.

Ridgewood improved to 10-7 with the win.

Kaiden Mastri went 3-for-4 and Nick Pietro was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Cardinals (10-10).

Malvern 4, Conotton Valley 2

Ethan Bush had three singles and Dylan Thomas drove in two runs as Malvern picked up an IVC North win at Conotton Valley.

Tristan Phillips was the winning pitcher and Johnny Walker recorded the save for the Hornets (11-9).

Brooks Bower had two hits for the Rockets.

Carrollton 5, Beaver Local 4

Carrollton scored a run in the bottom of the seventh for a non-league win over Beaver Local at the Field of Dreams.

Cayden Smith had two hits and Jon Birong drove in two runs for the winners. Cayden Rininger got the pitching win.

Triway 12, Fairless 2

Chad Harper had two doubles and three RBIs to lead Triway to a Principals Athletic Conference win at Fairless.

Cameron Perez posted two hits and an RBI for Fairless (5-12 1-10).

St. Clairsville 10, Harrison Central 0

Visiting St. Clairsville pinned a shutout on the Huskies at Harrison Central.

Coshocton 12, Claymont 0

Winning pitcher Hudson Wesney helped his cause at plate by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs as host Coshocton blanked Claymont in five innings.

Blake Alexander added two hits and an RBI double for Coshocton.

River View 9, East Knox 3

River View picked up a non-league win over East Knox at Howard.
