Garden State Parkway crash snarls rush-hour traffic for miles in Washington Township

A crash snarled traffic on the Garden State Parkway during rush hour Friday afternoon, blocking all of the highway's southbound lanes and injuring at least one occupant, the NJ Turnpike Authority stated at 5 p.m.

State police did not immediately respond to a request for information on the victim's condition and other details surrounding the collision, which slowed traffic to a crawl in both directions leading up to the crash site near the Pascack Valley Toll Plaza in Washington Township, according to a live map operated by the state Department of Transportation.

The alert said motorists on the southbound lanes were backed up for a four-mile stretch, all the way to exits in Woodcliff Lake. Whereas on the northbound side, delays appeared to plague drivers only as far back as the previous exit.
