Garden State Parkway Exit 105 express lane closure: What you need to know

TINTON FALLS - The two Garden State Parkway express lane ramps at the Exit 105 interchange were scheduled to close the night of April 19 for nine months for bridge work.

In the event of inclement weather, the closure would be moved to Wednesday, said Tom Feeney, spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. However, he said he was fairly confident the closure would go off as planned on Tuesday.

At this point, only the two express ramps — the one exiting the parkway southbound and the one entering the parkway northbound from Route 36 — will be closed, as part of a $17 million project to repair five bridges at the interchange.

A sign on the Garden State Parkway informs motorists that the Express lane ramp at Exit 105 will close starting April 19, 2022.

Motorists traveling south on the parkway can still exit at 105 as long as they remain in the outer lanes, or the non-express, all-exit lanes of the parkway.

Likewise, motorists looking to enter the parkway north from Route 36 at 105 can do so by taking the outer lane entrance, or non-express all-lanes, ramp.

Drivers traveling northbound on the parkway are unaffected by the closure and can use Exit 105.

Long Branch: Apartments, businesses OK'd next to Springsteen 'Born to Run' cottage

The Exit 105 interchange is one of the busier exits at the Jersey Shore during the summer, as many people use it to get to the Long Branch beaches, Monmouth Park in Oceanport or Monmouth Mall in Eatontown.

The construction is being done by Earle Asphalt Co., which is contracted to replace the decks, beams and parapets on five 1950s-era bridges.

In this round of work, Earle will complete three bridges. The work was originally slated to begin March 28 but was moved to mid-April.

The final two are expected to be completed in the fall of 2023, according to the Turnpike Authority.

In the event motorists are in the express lanes and wish to exit at 105, they will be instructed to take the detour at Exit 102 for Asbury Avenue in Tinton Falls.
