BERWICK, Maine — On Tuesday, April 18, at 6 p.m. for Patriots’ Day, join the Berwick Public Library for a concert by the Piscataqua Rangers Junior Fife and Drum Corps. The musicians are between the ages of 10 and 18. The corps appears at events across New England including parades, colonial-period events, reenactments, memorials, and veteran’s events.

Composting 101

SOMERSWORTH — Master Gardener Ron Trexler joins us on Wednesday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m. for an introductory composting program. Attendees will learn about proper composting methods, the value of domestic and community composting, and how compost can be used in their own garden. The Somersworth Public Library will remain open until 7:30 p.m. to allow for questions at the conclusion of the program.

The US and the Holocaust documentary film screening and discussion series

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Public Library in collaboration with NH PBS and The Cohen Center will host a documentary film screening and discussion series on this acclaimed and powerful documentary. This series of programs will run for six consecutive weeks, Wednesday, April 19 through May 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This educational series is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Discussion on purity, eugenics, and lethal medicine

DURHAM — The Active Retirement Association announces a free presentation by Tom White, Coordinator of Educational Outreach for the Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies at Keene State College. The discussion, entitled “Purity, Eugenics, and Lethal Medicine,” will explore how American eugenics and anti-immigration initiatives influenced Nazi race policy during the era of Jim Crow. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the Durham Evangelical Church (lower level), 114 Dover Road (Route 108), Durham. 'Let’s Get Growing' gardening series

BERWICK, Maine — Join this gardening series at the Berwick Public Library, led by Amrita Cottrell and Dennis Jackson, and learn about the most sustainable methods of growing fruits and vegetables, even on a small lot. In addition, you'll discover easy ways to beautify your yard and support pollinators at the same time. The second program in this series, building your soil, will be held at the library on Wednesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. The following sessions will be held  May 16 and June 21.

Poetry themed pop-up event

DOVER — Stop by Flight Coffee on Wednesday, April 19 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for a poetry-themed pop-up event. We will be inviting community members to stop by and record themselves reading a favorite poem out loud for our social media accounts in honor of Dover Public Library's 21st Annual Poetry Contest and National Poetry Month.

All Abilities Club: Morning Movie

DOVER — On Wednesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. join us at the Dover Public Library for a mid-day movie. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch to eat while they watch. This month’s movie is “A Street Cat Named Bob”, rated PG-13. All Abilities Club is a series of programs geared towards adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

Mad Science presents: What do you know about H2O?

BERWICK, Maine — On Friday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. all things H2O are covered in this exploration into the science of water at the Berwick Public Library. In this interactive event, we will play a molecule game, witness a demonstration of surface tension, and take a swan dive into what makes water so cool. We’ll make a splash without getting the library too wet.

Sustainability Fair

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Public Library in partnership with more than 30 local organizations will hold a free Sustainability Fair on Friday, April 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Connie Bean Recreation Center at 155 Parrott Avenue (behind the library). All ages are encouraged to join us to learn more about efforts to address climate issues in our community, and find out how to get involved on Earth Day and beyond! There will be food, music, and activities for all ages. The library will host our regular We Craft event in the library’s Levenson Room from 5 to 6:30 p.m. where people can swap unwanted or unneeded crafts supplies to keep them out of the landfill. RYE — The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals, held Saturday, April 22, at 9 a.m. at the Seacoast Science Center features a 5k chip-timed trail race and untimed walk to benefit the Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue program. The popular race follows a scenic route through the forest, by the rocky shore, along a sandy beach, and alongside historic military fortifications in Odiorne Point State Park. SOMERSWORTH — Jeff Warner joins us at the Somersworth Public Library on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. for an afternoon of singing games, accessible "pocket instruments" like spoons and dancing puppets, tall tales, funny songs, old songs and songs kids teach each other in the playground. Author Talk With Cheryl Grant Gillespie

BERWICK, Maine — On Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at the Berwick Public Library, Cheryl Grant Gillespie will talk about her book, “From Beaver Creek to Hanoi: A Mother’s Quest to Rescue her Son,” the story of a woman who worked for three years to get her son out of a prisoner of war camp during the Vietnam war.

Blueberry Pancake Breakfast

Music, art and mindfulness

DOVER — On Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. join us at the Dover Public Library for an hour of guided meditation, imagery, and music led by the expressive therapists of The Wild Expanse Retreat. Participants will be led through a guided imagery meditation and use art materials to represent a piece of that imagery, while being supported by live music. This workshop is free and open to the public, but limited to adults. No experience necessary. RSVP requested.

STEM Saturday: Dover Shockwave Robotics

DOVER — On Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. join us at the Dover Public Library as the Dover Shockwave Robotics Team introduces us to two of their robots. They will tell us about their team, the process that was used to design and build the robot, and demonstrate how the robot works.
