Gardner News rolling out new comics pages: Here's what you will get

As a kid, the funnies were the newspaper pages I would always read first, then the classifieds for lost pets, followed by Dear Abby. I was always rooting for Charlie Brown to kick the football and amused by Hagar the Horrible’s antics.

Little did I know then that the comic section would be my entry into a newspaper career I have come to love.

Comics have been a mainstay in newspapers and that isn't changing. But the media business has always been about evolution, and change is coming to your daily comics beginning Oct. 2.

The Gardner News is transitioning our comics pages as part of a company-wide initiative.

Going forward we will have Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar the Horrible, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, and Pickles.

Comics are popular – we understand that – I'm glad to see that we get to keep the classics. (Maybe Charlie Brown will actually get to the football before Lucy swipes it away!) If one of your favorites is going away, maybe one of these classics will bring you the same kind of joy.

Even more offerings will be available to our digital subscribers at www.thegardnernews.com/comics.

Your subscription price is not affected by the change.

Comic offerings have historically evolved to reflect the culture and tastes of the times. As a trusted source of local news and content in communities across the country, the USA Today Network continuously evaluates our content and how to best serve our audiences.
