Gardner-Webb men's and women's basketball: Big South Tournament live score updates

The Gardner-Webb men’s and women’s basketball team look to score NCAA tournament berths this weekend, traveling to Charlotte for the Big South Tournament.

After becoming the first Big South team to go 18-0 in league play, the No. 1 Runnin’ Bulldog women defeated UNC Asheville 82-58 in its tournament opener on Thursday.

Jhessyka Williams had 26 points, while Alasia Smith earned a double-double (16 points, 16 rebounds). Ki'Ari Cain joined them in double figures with 11.

The fifth-seeded Gardner-Webb men fell 77-76 to No. 4 USC Upstate in the the tournament quarterfinals Friday.

What channel is the Big South Tournament on?

The first four days of tournament play can be accessed via ESPN+. Sunday’s men’s tournament final will be aired by ESPN 2, while the women’s championship game is to be shown on ESPNU. ESPNCLT.com will provide radio coverage of the game.

Big South honors

The Runnin’ Bulldog women collected several league honors following their conference championship.

  • Forward Jhessyka Williams was unanimously chosen as the league’s player of the year. She leads the league in scoring (18.8 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg). Williams is the first Gardner-Webb standout to be named league player of the year since Margaret Roundtree in 2010.

  • Coach Alex Simmons was named Big South Coach of the Year. She is the first Gardner-Webb coach to receive the honor since 2010.

  • Alasia Smith was selected as the Big South's top defensive player.

  • Guards Lauren Bevis was a first-team all-Big South selection, while Ki’Ari Cain was an honorable mention.

  • Shelby native L’Mia Littlejohn earned a spot on the Big South all-Academic Team.

Gardner-Webb’s D.Q. Nicholas and Kareem Reid were named to the all-Big South men’s roster as a second-team selection and honorable mention, respectively.
