Garfield National Historic Site to again host 'Evening with Edgar Allan Poe'

Sep. 10—James A. Garfield National Historic Site recently announced that its "An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe" event will return in October.

Baltimore-based actor David Keltz will again take the stage as one of President and Mrs. James A. Garfield's favorite fiction authors: Edgar Allan Poe. He has appeared as Poe at the Garfield National Historic Site since 2010, according to a news release.

Keltz will perform as Poe on three consecutive evenings with 6 and 8 p.m. presentations Oct. 19, 20, and 21. The 6 p.m. shows will feature the epic poem "The Raven" and the story "The Premature Burial," while the 8 p.m. shows will feature "The Raven" and the story "The Tell-Tale Heart."

Tickets are only available on Eventbrite. Tickets are $32 per person per show and that price includes an open house tour of the Garfield home and refreshments, the release stated. This event is intended for people ages 16 and over.

"President and Mrs. Garfield were avid readers of Poe's works," Site Manager Todd Arrington stated in the release. "In fact, several original Poe volumes are on the shelves of the Memorial Library here in the Garfield home.

"This event has become one of our most popular, and we're thrilled to welcome David Keltz back here for another great year."
