Garth Brooks announces 2022 Nissan Stadium return

Perhaps hoping that friends in high places will intercede this time, Garth Brooks has announced a 2022 performance date for Music City's Nissan Stadium for April 16, 2022.

Brooks' ended his sold-out 2021 stadium tour after concerns regarding spiking COVID rates in July and August 2021. The announcement is the first since an August 2021 statement ended a well-anticipated run of dates for the country superstar.

"In July, I sincerely thought the pandemic was falling behind us. Now, watching this new wave, I realize we are still in the fight and I must do my part," stated the "The Thunder Rolls" vocalist. As a result, Ticketmaster refunds were immediately offered for the over 350,000 tickets sold for non-rescheduled dates, including Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on September 18, 2021, Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on September 25, 2021, M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on October 2, 2021, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on October 9, 2021, and what was an already set-to-be rescheduled date at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Brooks' July 31 date in Nashville was rained out, but not after an abbreviated show that kicked off under overcast skies with Chris Young, then Emmylou Harris and Brooks' wife, Trisha Yearwood. They performed a duet of Harris' 2003 single "Strong Hand" as lightning began to form over the stadium. Soon after that, concertgoers were asked to shelter within the stadium concourses. Ninety minutes later, the show was canceled outright.

Nissan Stadium officials initially attempted to move the concert to Sunday, August 1, 2021. However, that did not occur.
