Garth Brooks is coming to Kauffman Stadium ... to announce his new radio project

Although he’s never called Kansas City his home, country music star Garth Brooks has deep ties to the area.

In 2021, he played a concert at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which was nothing compared to the nine sold-out shows he did when the T-Mobile Center opened in 2007.

Then there was the time he played for the Royals.

It was during spring training 2004, when optimism was high because the Royals were coming off an 83-win season. Brooks played in an intrasquad game at spring training and took part in camp activities while promoting his “Teammates for Kids Foundation.”

Next week, Brooks will be at Kauffman Stadium, but not for a concert or baseball game.

On Tuesday, he’ll announce a new project with TuneIn Radio. A public-relations person said Brooks will be joined by “a well-known national sports broadcaster. We anticipate a few local professional athletes will be in attendance.”

I’ve been told no Royals are scheduled to join Brooks at this time but there will be representation from the Chiefs, Current, Sporting Kansas City and at least one local college.

Brooks ended the “Garth Channel” on SiriusXM on Sept. 30, 2022. Earlier this year, he started “the BIG 615 radio station from Garth Brooks’ SEVENS Radio Network” on TuneIn Radio, per a news release on Business Wire.

The BIG 615 is a country station but Brooks is branching out.

That news release said SEVENS Radio will launch multiple stations on TuneIn this year, “dedicated to country music and more, all curated and conceived by Garth Brooks.”

Seems likely that would include a sports show, which probably will be announced at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday.

Brooks is a sports nut.

“Few besides his hardcore fans know about his time as an athlete who played football and baseball and participated in track and field,” the Dallas Morning-News noted.

Tuesday’s event is not open to the public.
