Gas Up & Go: Glamping; a new trend when it comes to camping

SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) — The deeper you drive in Oscar Scherer State Park in Sarasota, the more you’ll realize you’ve left the beach town vibes and you’re into the thick of old Florida.

Here’s where you’ll find these eye-catching “tents.” And like many park-goers, curiosity may pull you in with some questions of your own.

“How we started, what’s inside, if they can take a peek,” says owner Anayancy Escarpenter.

That’s when you might realize, you just might be a glamper! So, what is glamping? Owner Anayancy Escarpenter states it simply.

“You know, luxury and comforts of home but still being able to appreciate being outdoor and being in nature,” says Escarpenter.

If you’re wondering, yes, that means this tent comes equipped with its own AC unit.

“And we’re not just AC but also heat,” says Escarpenter.

Coffee maker, fridge, elevated grounds and comfy beds; check! Bathrooms, you ask? Well, that part is still tied to the park’s bathhouses right across the road. Even with that minor camping inconvenience, Escarpanter says the appeal of glamping spans generations.

“It goes from younger millennials that want cute Instagramable moments or really just good old fashion campers that are really tired of packing up their car and making things a little more complicated when it comes to camping,” says Escarpenter.

With multiple tents for use, one could host a whole “glamping” block party! And Escarpanter says some do- from large family reunions to celebrating anniversaries and even a girls’ trip in the wilderness.
