Gas leak forces evacuation of Plainridge Park Casino, police say
A gas leak led to the evacuation of the Plainridge Park Casino on Saturday afternoon, state police said.
“Due to a gas leak on the property, the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville and extending parking lots are currently being evacuated,” state police said in a tweet shortly before 2 p.m.

The evacuation occurred as the region is experiencing an arctic blast that caused freezing temperatures over the weekend.
The gas leak from a rooftop unit “apparently involved burst sprinkler pipe,” state police said.
The casino was expected to reopen to the public in the “very near future,” state police said.
The Massachusetts State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit and Plainville Police responded to handle crowds.
Firefighters were on scene “until sprinkler company makes repairs,” state police said.
The casino at 301 Washington St. in Plainville is a popular destination for area residents.
Police advised motorists to expect traffic and delays on Route 1 and area roadways.
