Gas prices: ‘Downward momentum should continue’ in Florida

The price of gas fell another 11 cents last week, landing at $3.28 per gallon on Sunday.

AAA said that’s the lowest daily average since Oct. 31, when Florida’s gas tax holiday was still in effect.

And overnight, the state’s average for regular unleaded dropped another penny.

The auto giant said that in the span of three weeks, gas has fallen 30 cents, thanks to solid supplies and low oil prices.

“The downward momentum should continue this week. Unless fundamentals change, the state average could drift below $3.20 per gallon by next weekend,” AAA’s Mark Jenkins said.

Jenkins added that despite a recent, slight uptick in the price of U.S. crude oil, it’s still lower than it was a few weeks ago when gasoline prices began to tumble.

He also pointed to the global impact of China’s COVID-19 lockdowns, saying concerns over reduced fuel demand have contributed to downward pressure on oil prices.

Back here in The Sunshine State, if you’re filling up an empty, 15-gallon tank on Monday, expect to pay about $49.

If you call The City Beautiful home, you’ll probably pay about a dollar less since the average price for a gallon in Orlando was $3.21 on Monday.
