Gas Rises From Lava Lake at Kilauea Volcano in Aerial Footage

Gas was seen rising from the Halemaumau Crater at the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii in aerial footage filmed by the United States Geological Survey on January 7, just weeks after the volcano began erupting.

The USGS said the footage “provided views of the ongoing eruption” and would be "used to map the ongoing activity.

“Lava continues to enter the lake at the base of the west vents,” the USGS also said. Credit: USGS via Storyful
