San Luis Obispo County gas prices jumped to new highs again this week, skyrocketing beyond $6 per gallon for the first time since the Ukrainian crisis sent prices soaring.
On Thursday, the region’s average price of gas reached a new peak: According to AAA, which monitors and tracks gas prices across the nation, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in San Luis Obispo County was $6.25 as of Thursday — breaking the region’s previous record.
The average price of a gallon diesel was also at a record high, according to AAA, costing $6.79 as of Thursday.
According to AAA, since Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has increased by about 10 cents to $4.58, as tighter supply and increased demand pushed pump prices higher.
AAA estimated that this “supply/demand dynamic combined with volatile crude prices, will likely continue to keep upward pressure on pump prices.”
