Gas station hack shows how to carry fountain sodas in a bag without spilling them

TikTok is going crazy for a convenience store hack that solves a strangely common issue: When carrying two fountain sodas out in a plastic bag, how do you prevent them from toppling over?

Of course, this may not be an issue if the gas station offers free cardboard drink carriers, but in situations where that’s not an option, there’s an easy solution blowing people’s minds.

According to a video uploaded by Joshua (@joshuaellle), all you have to do is place one of the fountain sodas inside the plastic “to-go” bag before twisting it and folding over the remaining plastic to create a second cup holder. Then, after placing the other cup inside, lift the bag by the two handles.

What results is essentially a makeshift drinks caddy, with two compartments on either side that cradle each fountain soda to keep it in place. This way, you can carry the bag to the car with one hand while the other is free to push open a door, balance a pizza box or hold any other items.

Joshua appears to have shot the original video while checking out at a gas station. A cashier named Chell demonstrated the hack and is now winning the praise of millions.

“am i the only one who didnt know about this ???” Joshua wrote in his now-viral video.

Based on the comments, he’s not alone in his amazement.

“Give this lady a tip and protect her at all costs necessary!” wrote @xfantas.y_champagne.

“She’s a genius,” declared @theejap.

To date, the TikTok has well over 13 million views and has inspired more than a few people to try it the next time they order two fountain sodas.

That said, it may not be the most eco-friendly or practical solution.

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), single-use plastics are notoriously hard to recycle and are a massive contributor to worldwide pollution.

That said, it may not be the most eco-friendly or practical solution.

They’re known to harm wildlife and humans since they take so long to break down that they wind up as microplastics, which can enter our drinking water and, ultimately, our bodies.

That’s why some states — including California, Connecticut, Maine and New York — have started to ban the sale of single-use plastic bags altogether.
