Gas under $4? Where to find cheap fuel in Modesto area ahead of Memorial Day weekend

As Modesto residents gear up to head out of town this Memorial Day weekend, finding affordable gas may be a priority, besides remembering to pack sunscreen.

California’s average regular gas price as of Thursday is $4.81 per gallon, surpassing the national average gas price by more than a dollar.

Gas prices are climbing as drivers fuel up ahead of the holiday weekend, according to AAA. One week ago, California’s average price for gas was around $4.78. Prices aren’t expected to rise much more going into the weekend, The Bee previously reported.

Stanislaus County is just under the state’s average price, with gas costing an average of $4.56 per gallon for unleaded — some of the cheapest in California. A gallon of gas will run you $5.90 on average in Mono County near the Nevada border.
