A cigar and cocktail lounge in Gastonia is under new ownership.

Whiskars Cigar & Co, located at 190 W. Main Av., has been taken over by The Vintage, an expansion of a Charlotte whiskey and cigar lounge. The business was purchased by Menagerie Hospitality Group, which operates The Vintage lounge in Charlotte, according to a press release.

The business was previously owned and operated by the Hibberts family, who founded Whiskgars in 2021.

Similar to the Charlotte location, The Vintage in Gastonia serves craft cocktails, charcuterie boards, seasonal tapas plates, and Menagerie Hospitality Group has hopes of expanding the menu. The culinary team from the Menagerie Hospitality Group’s other business, The Wine Loft, will be helping to develop the menu.

“The location emulates everything that The Vintage stands for, from the luxurious leather couches and chairs to the 36-foot granite bar. We felt a calling to continue the previous owner, Jacob Hibbert’s dream and honor all the work and effort he has put in to make a place for the whiskey and cigar community,” said Dan Weiss, president of Menagerie Hospitality Group. “Gastonia is also the perfect place for our growth for many reasons. We will offer reciprocating membership benefits so guests can visit either spot to have a variety of experiences, and because we’ll be operating in a new county, there is less competition for top-tier spirits. We’ll be able to snag some really cool stuff for our Gastonia guests to enjoy spirits that have been too hard to come by in Charlotte.”

Members who visit the lounge will be able to access brands that the Gastonia lounge previously has had on hand, such as the Liga Privada and Rocky Patel cigars, as well as brands like Foundation and Aladino from the Charlotte lounge.

Rebranding of the cigar lounge should be completed by this summer, and the lounge will remain open during the transition.
