Gastonia names Danette Dye as city housing and neighborhoods director

Gastonia native Danette Dye wants to play a part in the development of Gastonia's future as the city's housing and neighborhoods director.

"I look forward to working with the mayor and City Council, city leadership, staff and citizens of Gastonia," said Dye.

Dye brings 32 years of local government experience to the role through her previous work experiences in the city's police department and community services department.

“We are excited to promote Ms. Dye to this important position in our city,” said Michael Peoples, the city manager. “She brings a depth and breadth of technical knowledge and hands-on experience with Housing and Urban Development and city programs, which will be crucial to advancing our commitment to housing and neighborhood development.”

Dye will oversee the housing and neighborhoods department which includes Community Development, Keep Gastonia Beautiful, the Neighborhood Program Alliance for Community Enrichment and Sister Cities.

Dye will earn $102,240 salary in her new role.

Prior to her promotion, she served as the city's housing and neighborhoods administrator.

She attended Hunter Huss High School and received a bachelor's degree in political science from UNC Charlotte. Dye also has her license as a real estate broker and a HUD-certified housing counselor.

“I am honored to be selected by Mr. Peoples and his management team to serve the community I love and that has had such a profound impact upon my formative years,” said Dye.

She started her new position Feb. 26.
