Gateway school district again seeks board of trustee applicants
Gateway Unified School District is making a second attempt at appointing a new member to its board of trustees.
Members of the current board interviewed six candidates to fill the position last week, but were unable to reach a majority vote on four of the six. Nominations to fill the seat failed after trustees voted 2-2 on the applicants.
No vote was held on two of the candidates who applied.
The seat became vacant when Cherrill Clifford, who was elected to the board in November, resigned in early February amid controversy over hiring a new superintendent.
Applicants have until 4 p.m. Friday, March 17 to submit their application to represent Area 2 on the board. A letter of intent should accompany applications, according to the district.
If the trustees cannot appoint a new member to the board within 60 days of Clifford's resignation, the Shasta County Superintendent of Schools is required by law to call for a special election to fill the post.
To represent the area, applicants must live in Area 2, must not hold another political office that would conflict with serving on the board and applicants also cannot work for the school district.
