Gators News: Baseball top-ranked in recruiting, former softball star scores big

As Tuesdays are wont to be, today is a bit of a low news day as no sports programs are in competition until Thursday. However, the baseball team got some good news on Monday when one prestigious publication announced that the Gators have the top recruiting class in the nation and a former Florida standout claims the top prize in her softball league. Here is a quick look at the latest from the Gator Nation.

Baseball

Perfect Game announced its recruiting class rankings for 2021 on Monday, with the Florida Gators sitting at the top of the list in the No. 1 spot. This marks the seventh time in the past 11 seasons that the Gators have earned a top-six ranking from the publication.

Softball

Former softball standout Aleshia Ocasio accumulated 2,096 points over the five-week 2021 Athletes Unlimited season to earn the league’s second-ever title. As a Gator from 2015-2018, she was a two-time NFCA All-American. Joining her on the leaderboard was another former Gator Kelsey Stewart, who finished third with 1,612 points.
