Gaylord High School to receive donation of two vehicles for auto shop

GAYLORD — With the help of Bill Marsh Ford of Gaylord, high school students will have two new-to-them cars to work on.

As a part of a program through Ford, dealerships were able to buy back used vehicles under the condition they be donated to an education facility, said Steve Hutchinson, general manager of Bill Marsh Ford of Gaylord.

Hutchinson said he has worked and collaborated with Gaylord Community Schools Superintendent Jim Cracraft before, so the partnership came naturally.

Gaylord High School is receiving two cars, a 2014 and a 2015 Ford Focus. Currently, the school only has a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina to work on. Hutchinson said offering some newer technology to match the types of cars students would actually being working on if they pursued a career in that area would help prepare the students better.

"Supporting the youth is something that everybody in the community should have a part in, whether you have kids in the school or not," Hutchinson said. "That's that's the future workforce. The future of our community is our youth. So getting involved early with that and helping that and guiding that is something that gets me excited, and it gets the Marshes excited."

The cars are being presented to the district from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the Gaylord High School auto shop. Students who participate in the auto shop program will be in attendance for the event, as will team members of Bill Marsh Ford, Vesco Oil, Kirkland Community College and more.

The students will be able to hear from people working in the auto industry, and attendees will be able to see informative presentations.

"Gaylord Community Schools is grateful for this generous donation from Bill Marsh Ford," Cracraft said in a press release. "It will empower students enrolled in automotive courses at Gaylord High School to hone their skills in more cutting-edge technology."
