Gaylord volleyball's Hannah Fisher commits to Finlandia
GAYLORD ― Another member of Gaylord's talented class of 2023 graduates has found their next school and their next team.
Senior Hannah Fisher, one of the leaders for the GHS volleyball team this past year, made her college plans official on Wednesday, February 1 as she committed to Finlandia University, an NCAA Division III school in Hancock, Mich.
Fisher says she made an instant connection with the people surrounding the Finlandia program and the school itself, making it an easy choice for her future.
"The people I met at Finlandia are what stood out to me and helped me make this decision," Fisher said. "After meeting the coach, the team and some of the staff, I knew it was where I wanted to be."
Fisher started the 2022 season as the team's libero, she finished the season with 163 digs and a 95.7% serve rate along with 22 aces.
Fisher credited her family, coaches and teammates for their roles in helping her to this point.
"Most of all I would like to thank my family who have constantly supported me and helped me get to where I am now," said Fisher. "I also want to thank my club and high school coaches who pushed me to be the best I could be; coach Kyle, coach Kandys, coach Sheila, and coach Cerak. Lastly, I would like to thank my friends and teammates who supported and pushed me every practice and game."
Finlandia is coached by Brian Lammpa, entering his fifth season as the leader of the volleyball program. He has stops at NCAA Divison I schools on his resume, including five years as head coach at South Dakota (2003-07) before a stop as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Washington State (2008-10) before a long stint as an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Idaho (2011-2018).
