GBI releases new surveillance video showing person running from Georgia Guidestones before explosion

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released a new video that shows a person running to and from the Georgia Guidestones during the time the monument was bombed.

The 19-foot granite structure was partially toppled by an explosive device early Wednesday morning. Crews have since demolished the structure for safety concerns.

The monument, which was commissioned by anonymous donors, was inscribed with what many saw as messages to guide future humans and functioned as a rudimentary clock and compass.

It was also the fodder of conspiracy theorists online, some of whom called the monument “satanic” and evidence of the New World Order.

New surveillance video shows a figure running to the statue and then running away. The video and still images taken from it are of poor quality, but they do show a figure seemingly carrying something large to the base of the monument.

“Agents are still actively working to identify the person leaving the scene after the explosion,” the GBI said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the GBI released video of the explosion itself and a silver car driving away from the scene.

The local district attorney’s office said whoever destroyed the monument faces at least 20 years in prison without parole for destroying a public monument with an explosive device.
