GE Appliances planning $50 million investment into Greenville County. Here's what to know.

GE Appliances is planning a $50 million investment into Greenville County, according to a press release from the Greenville Area Development Corporation.

The investment, GE Appliances' second in South Carolina, would create a new distribution center for the company and is projected to create 45 new jobs over the next five years.

“The business-friendly climate of South Carolina and Greenville County, and the proximity to Inland Port Greer make this an ideal location to build our newest distribution center in support of our growing business,” said GE Appliances Vice President of Distribution Marcia Brey in the release.

The investment is tied to a fee-in-lieu-of-tax (FILOT) agreement that would require GE Appliances to invest at least $50 million into Greenville County over the next five years. The FILOT agreement has passed two of the three votes needed by County Council and will likely be up for its third and final vote next week.

GE Appliances currently operates a water heater manufacturing facility in Camden that opened last year.

According to the release, the new distribution center will be located in the Augusta Grove Business Park. The expansion is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.
