Gear up for another gloomy week. Delaware's forecast includes showers and thunderstorms
Last week’s burst of gloomy weather lingers this week as Delaware is forecast to receive more rain and thunderstorms through the weekend.
If you thought that peek of sunshine over the weekend signaled the end of toting around umbrellas and skipping over puddles, don’t be so quick to ditch your rain gear.
Delaware is set for a week of gray skies, rain showers and thunderstorms with a few periods of sunshine to tide us all through another bout of inclement weather, according to the National Weather Service.
What is the weather like in Delaware today?
Through tonight, New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties may experience flooding, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas and near vulnerable small creeks and streams.
Scattered severe thunderstorms also are possible. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for New Castle County just after 1 p.m. and will remain in effect until 9 p.m.
Thunderstorms with strong winds and hail were noted in Pike Creek and parts of New Jersey near Wilmington. The severe thunderstorm warning will remain in effect in New Castle County until 6:45 p.m.
Tuesday through Sunday, NWS predicts a low probability of widespread hazardous weather throughout the state.

From 6 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Delaware’s coastal waters face south winds between 10 and 20 knots, wind gusts up to 25 knots and seas of three to five feet are expected.
The National Weather Service also has cautioned that conditions in portions of the Atlantic coastal waters will be hazardous to small craft, particularly those operated by inexperienced mariners.
Weather in Delaware this week
Monday will see a chance of rain showers and thunderstorms, followed by likely showers and the possibility of thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain.
Showers and thunderstorms will pick up between 2 and 3 a.m., continuing with the possibility of severe winds and heavy rain.
Tuesday’s forecast includes mostly cloudy skies and a chance of showers with the possibility of thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Wind gusts as high as 20 mph will be present.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected before 9 p.m., with winds between 5 to 10 mph by nightfall.

On Wednesday, expect a chance of showers between noon and 3 p.m., followed by thunderstorms and rain. Partly sunny skies will be accompanied by winds between 5 to 10 mph.
By Wednesday night, chances of showers and thunderstorms are expected before 9 p.m., picking up again until 3 a.m.
After a few days of rainfall, Thursday turns over a new leaf with mostly sunny skies in the daytime, followed by partly cloudy skies at night.
By Friday, mostly sunny skies will continue, but a chance of showers and thunderstorms are forecast after 3 p.m. By nightfall, it will be partly cloudy with a lingering chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Saturday kicks off the weekend with partly sunny skies and a chance of showers of thunderstorms. These conditions will continue into the night as skies transition to mostly cloudy.
Sunday will be partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
