Geauga Park District seeks help to 'reforest the fairways'
Feb. 24—Geauga Park District is planting 1,000 trees at Veterans Legacy Woods, and now the public can join in to help "reforest the fairways" — restoring this former golf course in Newbury Township to a more natural state in celebration of Earth Day.
There are multiple ways to get involved, with additional details posted on the park district's website.
People can back the mission with funding. Sponsorship packages offer a variety of opportunities to promote a business or organization while working together to help the environment, according to a news release.
Also, volunteer packages are available that offer recognition and take-home gifts for groups who plant trees on April 20 or 21, or a fall date to be determined, the release stated.
Volunteers will work together to plant young trees and build fencing for their protection. Create a team of friends, family or coworkers — or, for those who work in human resources or own a small business, consider engaging employees in a wellness day, the release stated.
A public tree planting at Veterans Legacy Woods will also be held April 22, which is Earth Day. Attendance will be limited so Geauga residents can register beginning March 20 and out-of-county residents can beginning March 27 by visiting www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or calling 440-286-9516.
