Geisinger to open new $15.5 million primary and urgent care facility in Centre County

A new $15.5 million health care facility that will offer primary and urgent care is expected to open later this year in rural Spring Township.

Geisinger Primary Care Bellefonte, 226 Buckaroo Lane, is one of several investments in the past four years to expand health care services in Centre County. Three health systems have committed more than half a billion.

All providers and staff at Geisinger’s ConvenientCare, 174 Buckaroo Lane, and primary care clinic, 819 E. Bishop St., are expected to relocate to the new building, the health system wrote in a news release Tuesday.

Dermatology, ultrasound, X-ray and lab services will be offered in the 23,900-square-foot facility, services the health system said would be available during walk-in visits or scheduled appointments. It’s expected to have 34 exam rooms.

Geisinger plans to open the new facility in November, a spokesperson wrote in an email.

“The relocation of our primary care and ConvenientCare walk-in clinics in Bellefonte is a benefit for community members looking for easy-to-access health care services closer to home,” said Michelle Holt, associate vice president for Geisinger community medicine. “The addition of this site to our expanding network not only makes health care easier for our neighbors now, but it also includes space for more outreach services in the future.”

Geisinger plans to open in late 2024 a new primary care facility at 226 Buckaroo Lane in Spring Township. The building will also be home to an urgent care.

Geisinger’s urgent care clinic has been closed since October due to staffing limitations. The health system anticipates the clinic to be “fully staffed by the opening date,” Holt said.

The new location would be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends. Walk-in patients would be accepted until 15 minutes before the clinic is scheduled to close.

Health professionals recommend urgent care for people seeking treatment of minor injuries such as cold and flu symptoms, allergies, earaches, tick removal, sprains and minor cuts.

Geisinger is also completing a $12 million expansion of its clinic at Gray’s Woods in Patton Township. The addition is expected to bring more specialty services and give patients increased appointment availability. It’s set to be completed by the end of the year.

Mount Nittany Health plans to open a new $90 million, 125,000-square-foot outpatient medical center by the spring in Toftrees West. The health system also began construction on a $350 million, 10-floor addition to the hospital that is expected to be completed in 2026.

Penn Highlands Healthcare is building a new $70 million hospital and medical office building at 239 Colonnade Boulevard in Patton Township. It’s set to open in the summer.
