Hall County Schools said the audits are to identify areas where security and safety could be improved. Results aren’t made to the public, but are shared with the school leaders.

“Those results are not only encouraging but always give us numerous opportunities for educating our folks at becoming even better at what we do,” Hall County Superintendent Will Schofield said on Friday.

In July 2022, GEMA officials unveiled a new statewide school safety plan. Channel 2 Action News sat down with GEMA director Chris Stallings before the plan was released.

The plans are guidelines or minimum standards that each school district should meet, yet they leave the details of how to meet them up to each individual school district according to their resources and abilities.

Stallings said they’ve been working on the plan for months, but the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, gave their work more meaning.

“I can’t think of anything I value more than my kid’s life,” said GEMA-HS Director Chris Stallings. “There’s nothing that means more to me than my children.”
