Gemma Atkinson addresses name change decision ahead of marriage to Gorka

Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actress Gemma Atkinson has spoken about her upcoming marriage to Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Márquez, and whether it will lead to her taking his surname.
Speaking on her podcast The Overshare, Gemma seemed to confirm that she would take on Gorka's surname, and explained that it's him who is really keen on the idea, while she's not hugely bothered either way.
On the topic of whether men desire the security of marriage or a relationship more than women, Gemma said: "In my case, we will get married, but it won't change how I feel for him.

"I love him so much anyway, whereas he sees it [as] 'I'm going to love her so much more.' And I think, 'How can you love me more?' I mean, nothing's going to change other than we'll have the same name. But it's so much more significant for him."
When it comes to the idea of having a big wedding ceremony, however, it's Gorka who is the one who isn't fussed.
"He'd go to a registry office tomorrow and do it, he just says that 'I would love the fact that we've all got the same name. It's a family unit', whereas I see the fact that we've had two babies is more of a commitment than just me having his name on the end of it.

"I always say to him, 'If you want I can put the name on the end of it anyway, no one needs to know it's not a real marriage.' He's like, 'No, I want to do it!'"
The couple announced their engagement all the way back in February 2021, so we'd say a quick nip down the registry office is probably out of the question by now.
