Gemma Chan will lead the upcoming film “The Actor,” directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Duke Johnson.

The movie, which has just finished filming, is based on the bestselling novel “Memory” by Donald E. Westlake. It follows the story of an actor named Paul Cole, played by André Holland, who suffers from memory loss after a brutal attack and must find his way back to his life in New York.

Holland takes over the role from Ryan Gosling, who continues to serve as executive producer on the project alongside “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. Rounding out the cast are Toby Jones, Tracey Ullman, Simon McBurney and Joe Cole.

This will be Chan’s latest addition to a long list of notable projects she is working on, including the upcoming Gareth Edwards movie “True Love” and a “Crazy Rich Asiansspin-off with Harry Shum Jr. Chan is currently developing a feature about Hollywood legend Anna May Wong, for which she will star and executive produce. She is also set to executive produce “The Moon Represents My Heart,” a limited series on Netflix.
