Gen Z loves to thrift, and URBN has opened shop at Philadelphia Mills to give them their fix

If you are an avid thrifter with a taste for fashionable clothes, there's aisles and aisles to check out in Philadelphia.

Urban Outfitters, otherwise known as URBN, launched "Reclectic" in the Philadelphia Mills, formerly Franklin Mills off I-95 and Woodhaven Road, on Thursday.

Reclectic will fill in a 40,000 square-foot space at the mall, URBN's director of communications and impact Meaghan Condon said in a media alert, and it will feature products and samples from Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters and gently used inventory that has been retired from Nuuly, URBN's rental brand.

The concept store is part of the Philadelphia-based fashion company's attempts to address environmental and social responsibility goals. By launching Reclectic, Condon said URBN "is making a bet" on Gen Z thrifting habits.

"Consumer attitudes have evolved. Sustainability is important to them and we’re seeing a greater willingness from our customers to try out pre-loved items or salvage pieces with minor damages,” said Joanna Matthy, senior director at URBN and the lead strategist behind Reclectic. “We are excited to offer them merchandise that still has life in it but isn’t necessarily something we can sell in one of our typical channels.”

The store was getting rave reviews and attention on social media as Tik Tok creators gave views inside and highlighted bargains to be had on everything from jeans, shoes furniture (check out the green velvet couch) to housewares.
