Genealogy Network of Texas Event set for Friday

Oct. 18—The Huntsville Public Library and Walker County Genealogical Society are celebrating Family History Month by co-hosting the presentation of the 22nd Genealogy Network of Texas event on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Staggs Community Room of the Huntsville Public Library.

Over 60 libraries and societies across Texas will join together to present this free virtual genealogical event simultaneously.

The presentations begin at 10:30 a.m. with "Genealogy Basics: Start Searching for Your Ancestors Today."

"This is the fourth year that the Huntsville Library has participated in this event," said Adult Services Coordinator Mary Kokot.

This is a beginner level program given by Irene Walters, Librarian from the Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library. After a break for lunch, the afternoon program will start with "Uncover Your Family's Story Using the Periodical Source Index (PERSI)."

PERSI is the premier subject index for genealogy and local history periodicals and it will be presented by Elizabeth Hodges who is the Senior Librarian at the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center which is the source for this database.

At 1:50 p.m., the presentation "Linking the Generations with Court and Land Records" occurs given by the renown attorney and genealogist Judy Russell who is well known as "The Legal Genealogist".

The program will wind up the day at 3 p.m. with "Placing Your DNA Matches on Your Tree" given by Ryan Russell a Genetic Genealogist with Open Door Genetics. Something for everyone and every level of expertise.

"GNT is a state-wide initiative to connect libraries and genealogical societies and provide educational and research opportunities that is spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library," said Kokot.
