'General Hospital' actor says he was fired from show for failing to get COVID-19 vaccine

"General Hospital" actor Steve Burton said in an Instagram video on Tuesday he was fired from the show for failing to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
"I wanted you to hear it from me personally," Burton said. "Unfortunately, 'General Hospital' has let me go because of the vaccine mandate."
The actor said he was denied medical and religious exemptions he applied for so he would not have to get vaccinated.
"This is also about personal freedom to me. I don't think anybody should lose their livelihood over this," he said.
Burton starred in the show for 30 years as the character Jason Morgan, NBC News reported. He was in more than 2,200 episodes of the daytime soap opera.
His last shoot for the show was on Oct. 27, according to NBC News, which got confirmation he was fired from the show.
Burton said he is unsure when his last episode will air on TV, saying he hopes to be back if they ever drop the mandate.
"Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor," Burton said. "And if not, I'm going to take this amazing experience, move forward and be forever grateful."
