General Mills announces nationwide recall of Gold Medal flour over Salmonella outbreak
General Mills along with the FDA and CDC have issued a nationwide recall of Gold Medal flour due to Salmonella contamination.
Four types of bleached and unbleached flour that says “better if used by” by dates March 27 2024 and March 28th, 2024 were recalled.

Interviews with consumers and lab data show that the Gold Medal flour contaminated with Salmonella made people that consume the flour sick.
Consumers are asked to check their pantries and dispose of the product affected by this recall. Guidance from the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) warns that consumers should refrain from consuming any raw products made with flour.

Salmonella Infantisis killed by heat through baking, frying, sautéing, or boiling products made with flour. All surfaces, hands and utensils should be properly cleaned after contact with flour or dough. Consumers who have had to discard products covered by this recall may contact General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103.

About Salmonella:
Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps 6 hours to 6 days after being exposed to the bacteria. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment.
In some people, the illness may be so severe that the patient is hospitalized. Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other parts of the body.

Children younger than 5, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe illness.
