The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine believes that Russia plans to seize Kyiv in the future, create a new state entity and include it in the Russian Federation.

Quote: "We consider it probable that the enemy will engage in successive actions to attempt to take control of the territories of the Odesa, Mykolaiv and part of Zaporizhzhia regions, create a land corridor to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, seize the territory of central Ukraine, capture Kyiv, stage new elections to legislative and executive authorities while promoting pro-Russian forces to power, creating a new state entity and incorporating it into Russia.

Thus, the enemy will try to achieve his strategic political goal. But these are their thoughts. Their thoughts meet with our opposition."

Background: On 17 April, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Mykola Zhyrnov, said that the Regional Military Administration (OVA) was preparing for all possible scenarios by the Russians, including a second attempt to capture Kiev.

Before that, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klychko, did not rule out that Russian troops might again try to take the capital.
