Genesee Brewery to release fall beers next week. Is it too early?

When is the right time to enjoy a fall beer?

When the last Ruby Red Kolsch can is crushed? Or is it before the stores start decorating for Christmas, say, any minute now in some cases? Perhaps it's an indeterminate time between the last summer sunburn and the first January frostbite.

Whenever it is, next week, store shelves will be stocked with Genesee Brewing Co.'s autumnal specialty beers: Oktoberfest and Cran Orange Kellerbier.

A twist this year, Genesee is asking consumers when they believe the best time to release these fall beers is.

This has been an ongoing debate for years, according to Tiffany Benning, brand manager for Genesee.

Genesee is releasing its new autumnal classic, Cran Orange Kellerbier.

“So, we decided that it’s time to let the fans have the floor,” Benning said in a statement. “We want to hear if people are ready or not.”  Fans can message Genesee directly on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram @geneseebrewery or use #gennyfallrant to weigh in, good, bad or indifferent.

Some rants might even be featured on Genesee’s social channels, said Benning, who noted she knows of consumers who will drink them in cool or hot weather.

"Either way, it’s the perfect way to get excited for fall," Benning stated.

Here's something about each beer to ponder.

It's that time of year again, for Genny's Oktoberfest!
It's that time of year again, for Genny's Oktoberfest!

Genesee’s Oktoberfest is a recipe inspired by centuries of brewing and Genesee’s proud German heritage. Oktoberfest is a deep-golden lager, big on malt flavor and complimented by subtle herbal notes of noble hops.

Kellerbier literally means “cellar beer” because it referred to any beer being aged under the brewery and served straight from the lagering vessel. First introduced in 2021, Genesee Cran Orange Kellerbier is brewed with both Genesee’s German heritage and the beer’s history in mind, but with a modern twist: the addition of natural cranberry and orange flavors.

Perhaps after sampling, Genny beer fans can finally determine society's next greatest debate: which came first, the chicken or the egg?
