Genesis to be out-of-network for Anthem and Humana Medicare in 2024

ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System will not accept Anthem or Humana Medicare Advantage plans next year, according to a press release. This means Genesis Hospital and Genesis Medical Group Physicians will not be in-network with either plan.

“We simply cannot accept the Anthem or Humana Medicare Advantage Plans for 2024,” said Genesis President and CEO Mathew Perry. “If you are a current participant in Anthem or Humana Medicare, it is important to consider other choices during open enrollment, which is taking place now. As you review your options, we invite you to consider other health plans that Genesis HealthCare System accepts.”

This decision will impact approximately 10,000 Medicare patients, according to Kelly Daspit, director of marketing and public relations for Genesis HealthCare System.

Genesis did not give a reason for the move, but is encouraging all Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan members to review their options and choose coverage to ensure their doctors and hospital are in-network providers during the Medicare annual election period, which is open now through Dec. 7.

There are two ways for patients to seek assistance in evaluating which plan is right for them, according to the press release.

The first is working with an insurance broker to select a plan is one of the best ways. They can help evaluate the patient’s choice to find a plan that meets their unique needs. There is no cost for this service.

The second is the MA plans Genesis accepts will hold the following Medicare Advantage education sessions at 9 a.m. and noon each day to provide information and help you make a choice. This will be Oct. 25 at the North Terrace Church of Christ, Oct. 31 at Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge and Nov. 2 at St. Rose of Lima Parish in New Lexington.

Genesis for 2024 will accept Aetna Medicare, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Medigold and United Healthcare.
