Sep. 20—LIMA — The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed Genesis Rehab Services to Lima with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday afternoon.

Genesis Rehab Services is located inside Elmcroft of Lima, 2075 N. Eastown Road, Lima. It's been open since the end of May.

Lisha Tunning, occupational therapist and director of rehab at the Lima location, came on board at the end of June.

"I've worked mostly in skilled nursing but always with the geriatric population. This is the first time I've worked in a facility that was strictly assisted living," Tunning said.

It's something she really enjoys.

"I did some pediatrics in my clinical, but geriatrics is always what I've been passionate about, improving their quality of life and aging in place and maintaining as much mobility for as long as possible so yeah I love this age group," Tunning said.

Genesis Rehab Services provides outpatient therapy that includes physical, occupational and speech therapy.

They are also looking to expand into people's homes.

"(It's) so seniors don't have to try to find a ride to an outpatient clinic. We can actually go to them and provide services as well. Also, the community can come into our space here and get outpatient services," said Shannon Neumann, area director for Genesis Rehab Services.

There's a variety of cases where their services would be needed.

"Maybe somebody who had a knee replacement, who had hip surgery, who's had back surgery. ... Maybe they've had a general decline, somebody who has a lot of falls and is on the verge of not being able to stay at home," Neumann said.

To utilize the services, you need to be referred by a physician.

"Once we have the physician's order, we can take care of the rest," Neumann said.
