Genshin Impact 3.8: Should you pull for Wanderer, Kokomi, or save for Fontaine?

Wanderer and Kokomi are strong characters worth having on your account, are they worth pulling for now instead of saving for the upcoming Fontaine characters?

The second half of Genshin Impact version 3.8 will be the final event banner before our adventure moves onto the game’s upcoming fifth region: Fontaine, the Nation of Justice.

This banner will feature reruns for the 5-star Anemo DPS, Wanderer, and 5-star Hydro support, Sangonomiya Kokomi. While those two are strong characters definitely worth having on your account, are they worth spending Primogems on now instead of saving for the upcoming Fontaine characters?

If you’re still torn on that decision, read on and we’ll help you decide.

Should you save for the new Fontaine characters?

After HoYoverse dropped the show-stopping ‘Overture Teaser: The Final Feast’, which revealed most of the roster of playable characters from Fontaine, we can certainly understand if you locked your Primogem vault up to save for future pulls.

From the Hydro Archon Focalors, to the bewitching Fatui Harbinger Arlecchino, the imposing Chief Justice Neuvillette, and even the gun-toting Chlorinde, to name a few, Fontaine’s cast of characters definitely have us excited.

As someone who already has the Wanderer and Kokomi, the decision to save up was a very easy one for me. I’m sure most other players have reached the same conclusion too.

But what about for players who don’t have those two characters yet?

If you really want Wanderer or Kokomi, I’d advise pulling for them now, even if it will eat into your potential Fontaine savings.

We already know that the first-ever Fontaine banner will feature the sibling trio of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Lyney will be a 5-star Pyro bow user while Lynette and Freminet are both 4-stars, with the latter being an Anemo sword user while the latter is a Cryo claymore character.

Meanwhile, other fan-favourite characters like Focalors, Arlecchino, and Neuvillette are expected to come in the later banners.

So, if you’re not that excited for Lyney, Lynette, or Freminet, then why not spend your Primogems on Wanderer or Kokomi now?

But if you are looking to pull for Lyney, Lynette, or Freminet, then it should still be a safe decision to spend your pulls now. After all, the release of a new region is sure to bring in lots of Primogems from exploration, quests, and events to replenish your stockpile.

Sure, pulling now might not guarantee you’ll get the new characters on the first day of their banner, but you should still get them eventually thanks to the influx of Primogems we should get with the release of Fontaine.

If you’re still looking for reasons why you should pull for Wanderer or Kokomi, then we’ll break them down below.

Need a fast-hitting Anemo DPS? Get Wanderer

The Wanderer is a strong Anemo DPS that can unleash a storm of attacks from the skies while staying out of reach of grounded enemies.

Unlike other DPS characters, the Wanderer isn’t as reliant on having the best supports, like Bennett or Xingqiu, on his team to shine. With that said, having them around does greatly boost his damage potential, especially Faruzan.

The Wanderer’s bread-and-butter is his skill, which lets him take to the skies while boosting his normal and charged attacks. In addition, one of his ascension passives lets him gain a host of buffs based on contacting certain elements when using his skill.

Hydro makes his skill last longer, Pyro increases his ATK, Cryo increases his Crit Rate, while Electro lets him gain more energy. Two of these buffs can exist at the same time, though it can be increased to three when Wanderer is at C4.

What makes Wanderer not as dependent on supports is the fact that he can gain buffs from his skill from elemental infusions or afflictions on himself or enemies.

Meanwhile, Wanderer’s burst is a strong nuke ability that he can use once his skill’s duration ends to finish off any enemies still left standing.

Another thing that makes Wanderer a valuable DPS pick is that he has a lot of options when it comes to weapons and artifacts.

While he needs his signature weapon to reach full potential, the Wanderer can become strong already even with 4-star weapons. Best among them is definitely the Widsith, which gives him a lot of Crit DMG and a host of buffs.

As for his artifacts, he can go with the 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle set or even a mix of the 2-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle and any 2-piece set with a bonus that increases ATK%.

Need a versatile Hydro support? Get Kokomi

Kokomi is hands-down one of the best support characters in the game, as she offers top-tier single-target and party-wide healing as well as off-field Hydro application that can help drive strong elemental reactions.

As if that wasn’t enough to make her a top pick, Kokomi is also very easy to build and can shine at both low and high levels of investment.

Kokomi strong kit is centered around her skill, which summons a Bake-Kurage for 12 seconds that constantly heals nearby characters while applying Hydro to enemies.

If ever the party is in a pinch, Kokomi can take to the field and use her burst, which increases the damage of her normal and charged attacks while healing all party members every time her attacks hit enemies.

Kokomi’s burst also resets the duration of her skill, which can be useful if you need to extend her off-field Hydro application to drive more reactions.

Her healing also scales off her Max HP, which lets you easily stack up HP% main stats on her artifacts to boost her utility. With that said, Kokomi’s kit does have an interesting twist, she passively has a -100% Crit Rate in exchange for a 25% Healing Bonus.

You won’t crit with Kokomi, but you won’t need to as she’s your designated healer. She can dish out some solid damage herself too, and not having to rely on crits for her damage output (which scales off her Max HP anyway) can be seen as a plus.

Kokomi is also very easy to gear up. If you don’t have her signature weapon, then your best bets are either the 4-star Prototype Amber and the 3-star Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers.

Prototype Amber is craftable, has a HP% substat, and regenerates Kokomi’s energy while healing all party members after she uses her burst.

While the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is a 3-star weapon, one can argue that it’s Kokomi’s best weapon only behind her signature. It has a HP% substat while giving a massive ATK buff, up to 48% at R5, to the next character that takes the field after Kokomi. It’s honestly insane that a support weapon as good as this is only a 3-star.

As for Kokomi’s artifacts, she has two options to choose from: the 4-piece Ocean-Hued Clam, which boosts her healing and lets her pitch in some damage from off-field based on how much she heals, or the 4-piece Tenacity of the Millellith, which boosts her Max HP while also giving a party-wide ATK buff everytime her skill hits enemies.

Kokomi is arguably among the few characters in Genshin Impact that can be considered a must-pull. Her healing and off-field Hydro application are simply too good to pass up.

Since Fontaine is also the Nation of Hydro, we also expect Kokomi will become even more valuable in the new metagame that will be set for the region.

Should you bother getting Wanderer and Kokomi’s signature weapons?

While we wholeheartedly support anyone pulling for Wanderer or Kokomi, we advise a bit of caution when it comes to pulling on their accompanying weapon banner.

Of course, both characters reach their full potential once they wield their signatures, they don’t need them. In fact, both Wanderer and Kokomi can already shine with just 4-star weapons. Heck, Kokomi’s best non-signature weapon is arguably a 3-star one.

In the case of Wanderer, the Widsith is his best bet if you’re looking for a 4-star weapon. But if you’re willing to spend on the Battle Pass, you can also get the Solar Pearl from there.

If you’ve lost the 50/50 in previous weapon banners and have the Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds or Skyward Atlas lying around, those are worthy 5-star alternatives for Wanderer too.

As for Kokomi, as we mentioned above, you really only need two weapons if you’re not getting her signature: the Prototype Amber or Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers.

Both those weapons can be very easily acquired, so it’s not really worth spending Primogems on anything else when those are already available.

Another thing about this weapon banner in particular is that Wanderer and Kokomi can’t really use each other’s signatures if ever they get those instead of their own. So, spare yourself the disappointment and go for the alternatives we’ve listed above.

Genshin Impact is currently in version 3.8, which features a new summer event as well as reruns for Eula, Klee, the Wanderer, and Kokomi.

The highly-anticipated release of Fontaine in Genshin Impact version 4.0 will be in mid-August. The first batch of playable characters from the region include the sibling trio of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet.

But more than just adding a new region, version 4.0 will also add a new dimension to Genshin Impact's gameplay by introducing underwater exploration and combat!
