England legend and 1966 World Cup winner George Cohen has died aged 83.

Cohen was one of Fulham’s greatest ever players, having spent his entire career with 459 appearances for the Whites.

A Fulham statement read: “Everyone associated with Fulham Football Club is desperately saddened to learn of the passing of one of our greatest ever players – and gentlemen – George Cohen MBE.

“All of our thoughts are with Daphne, his beloved wife of more than 60 years, sons Anthony and Andrew, his grandchildren and extended family, as well as George’s many, many friends.”

Cohen played for the Three Lions 37 times after his debut in 1964 and was a vice-captain for Sir Alf Ramsey’s squad at the 1966 World Cup.

The right-back started the final against West Germany and was one of just three surviving members from that squad, alongside Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst.
