The George Floyd Memorial Foundation is holding a rally and march in Minneapolis ahead of the family meeting with President Biden.
The rally comes more than a month after ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for Floyd’s murder. The family is set to meet with Biden at the White House on Tuesday, on the one-year anniversary of Floyd’s death.
Bridgett Floyd, Floyd’s sister and founder of the foundation, attorney Ben Crump, who currently represents the families of a number of people killed by police and vigilante violence, and Reverend Al Sharpton are all planning to speak at the rally. A number of “local activists, elected officials, clergy and community leaders” will also speak.
A livestream was made available on a number of platforms.
A number of similar rallies and marches were held in the U.S. and several other countries over the weekend.
In Minneapolis, the foundation plans to hold a number of events after the rally and march, including panel discussions about turning protests into policy, live performances and a candlelight vigil on Tuesday night at the same intersection where Floyd died.
