Game of Thrones creator George R R Martin has revealed his favourite episode.

The fantasy author made a blog post following the publication of Vanity Fair's round-up of its favourite single episodes of TV ever, which featured Thrones' penultimate season 2 episode 'Blackwater'.

On his blog, Martin wrote that: "I scripted four [episodes]. And yes, 'Blackwater' is my own favourite of those, although I thought 'The Lion and the Rose' turned out very well too, and I have a soft spot for that one."

As a reminder, 'Blackwater' featured the Battle of Blackwater Bay, and 'The Lion and the Rose' featured Joffrey Baratheon's death at his own wedding.

The other two episodes Martin wrote, 'The Pointy End' and 'The Bear and Maiden Fair', featured Jon Snow meeting his first wight, and Brienne of Tarth fighting a bear, respectively.

Martin went on to praise the episodes of other shows included in the article that he had seen, and shared his love for the finale of Six Feet Under as another episode he thought was perfect.

"I feel very pleased and flattered to be in such great company," he concluded. "No work of art is ever truly perfect, of course… but it is very gratifying to hear that maybe you achieved it, or at least came close… for some of your readers (or viewers)… once in a very great while.

"There is always a next time, though… and regardless of how well (or poorly) one of my tales is received, I always want to do better the next time I sit down in front of the computer."

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. House of the Dragon airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
