George Santos and Trixie Mattel Are Fighting Each Other On Twitter

As the great Dorian Corey once said: "You get in a smart crack, and everyone laughs and kikis because you've found a flaw and exaggerated it; then you've got a good read going." And tonight, Trixie Mattel and United States Congressman George Santos (also known as Anthony Devolver) certainly have taken the idea to heart.

Over the past month, Santos has been under increasing scrutiny and criticism as the house of lies he's built around himself has come crashing down. Everything from where he said he went to college to what his name is has come out to be a farce. The result has made for a hectic first few weeks as a United States congressman, as calls for his resignation follow him through the halls of power.

Among the many criticisms, recent photos and video have surfaced showing that Santos appeared in drag — many characterized this as hypocritical as Santos aligns himself with a political party that has recently been pushing for the criminalization and restriction of drag. Santos (or is it Devolver?) initially denied the claims before clarifying that he was never a drag queen or performed, but only dressed in drag for a festival. All of this led up to Jon Lovitz spoofing Santos in a spot on The Tonight Show.

"I have now been enshrined in late night TV history with all these impersonations but they are all TERRIBLE so far," Santos tweeted Sunday night. He was also impersonated by Bowen Yang on Saturday Night Live. "Jon Lovitz is supposed to be one of the greatest comedians of all time and that was embarrassing — for him, not me! These comedians need to step their game up."

And while the responses were plenty, one stuck out.

"Maybe the source material was weak," Trixie Mattel, a drag performer who actually has the glamour to be a working professional and considered a queen, responded. The reading had begun.

"Clearly you know all about weak acting skills," Santos shot back about an hour later, including a GIF of Mattel performing as RuPaul in the Snatch Game on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, a performance in which she infamously bombed. It took less than an hour for Mattel to respond.

"I'm not an actor!" she wrote. "I was young and had fun at a festival!" The comment mirrored Santos's own statements that he was a drag queen.

To take a line from mama Ru: "I can't wait to see how this turns out."
