George School picks Harrison-Dixon as football coach
George School has a new football coach for its 100th anniversary season.
The school announced Thursday that it had hired MacAdoo Harrison-Dixon, who has 20-plus years of coaching experience at the semi-pro, high school and youth levels. Most recently, he was head coach at Glasgow High School in Newark, Delaware. The Dragons went 3-8 in 2022.
Harrison-Dixon also served as football coach and athletic director at Maurice J. Moyer Academy in Wilmington, in addition to head coach and recruiting coordinator for the semi-pro Claymont Buccaneers.
The 6-foot-1 Harrison-Dixon, a quarterback, began his collegiate playing career at West Virginia before transferring to Delaware State, where his final year was 1995.
George School, a private Quaker school in Newtown, considered dropping the football program or switching to eight-man games due to low numbers and competitive issues, but opted to continue with an independent schedule for the 2023 season.
Head coach Dom Gregorio resigned following a 4-6 campaign in 2022, which was his fourth with the Cougars. George School has compiled a 292-424-29 football record in a program that dates back to 1923.

"I look forward to using my experience, knowledge and passion for the sport to build a strong and successful program at George School,” said Harrison-Dixon in a release sent out by the school. "As I see it, one of the most important jobs of a coach is to develop and foster a healthy team culture, which is the foundation of any successful team."
Athletic director Kurt Ruch said Harrison-Dixon received unanimous support from the search committee and that school administrators are "eager to support his efforts to rebuild the football program."
