Reacting to the Texas Republican party platform declaring homosexuality “abnormal,” gay “Star Trek” actor George Takei changed the bio on his Twitter page, which has 3.4 million followers.

It now reads: “I am an abnormal lifestyle choice.”

The reference repeats verbatim what’s spelled out by Lone Star State conservatives’ 2022 Platform & Resolutions Committee unveiled over the weekend during its biennial convention in Houston. That outline also expresses opposition to “all efforts to validate transgender identity” and supports counselors who confront “unwanted same-sex attraction.”

A tweet from the gay, conservative Log Cabin Republican organization labeled the Texas Republican party’s intolerance of homosexuality “not just narrow-minded, but politically short-sighted” in the days leading up to the convention, where the platform was presented Saturday.

Takei, 85, was raised in an environment of bigotry and alienation. In 1942, the California native’s family was forced to live in internment camps for Japanese-Americans while the U.S. warred with Japan.

In addition to acting, Takei committed his adult years to progressive activism. He often shares his politics on Twitter where, under his new bio, Takei lashed out against former president Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Monday.

He married his husband Brad Altman in 2008. They said they met in a gay runners’ club and dated for more than two decades before making their romance public in 2005.

During a 2020 “The Howard Stern Show” interview, Takei assured Stern he treats Altman “like the prince that he is.”
